When our South African born founder moved to the UK, he soon started to miss the rooibos tea he drank back home.
It was surprisingly difficult to find naturally caffeine free tea, rather than chemically decaffeinated tea which still contains small amount of caffeine.
In the 1990s, very few people had heard of or could pronounce “rooibos” in the UK, which made buying a good quality brew challenging.
After speaking to a friend back in South Africa, he decided to introduce the UK to a good quality blend of his favourite tea.
Our journey began in 1997 with a small team in London where the Redbush Tea Company was born.
We have been supplying our finest grade of Redbush tea ever since.
We are incredibly lucky to still be sharing our tea with our ever growing loyal customers who share with us the love for our Redbush blend.
What’s in a name
Aspalathus linearis, the botanical name for the centuries-old South African herb, grows only in the Cederberg mountain region and is known locally as rooibos (pronounced “roy-boss”) in Afrikaans meaning literally “red bush”
We took the translation of rooibos to become part of our name, the Redbush Tea Company, reflecting our pure focus on selling rooibos tea products
Where we are now
We are still an independent tea company, we still work as a small family-like team and our office is still based in Covent Garden, London
The only change made is where we supply our tea to you. Last year, after much debating, we made a strategic decision to withdraw from the shelf space of bricks and mortar, by bringing our brand, our product and our product benefits directly to you by becoming an e-commerce store
We want to be able to build a better relationship with you and enhance your experience across mobile, email, social, telephone or even good old fashion letter
We are still very much committed to supplying you with our unique blend of tea and skincare through our online store and other digital platforms.
