Naturally caffeine free.
If you’re looking to reduce or completely stop your caffeine intake, introducing a cup of our naturally sweet, mild, softer tasting redbush tea into your diet could be a great alternative to drinking regular tea or coffee.
Rooibos or redbush is nature’s perfect caffeine-free tea, meaning your cup of tea has not been subject to a chemical decaffeination process, and you can be assured your cuppa is 100% caffeine free. Being completely absent of caffeine, redbush has a soothing effect on our nervous system, making it an ideal relaxing tea to drink at any time of the day.
Our tea is also a great alternative for expectant mums to be, and those who are caffeine intolerant and is safe for all ages.
Low in tannins – less bitter than normal teas.
Rooibos or redbush is naturally low in tannins compared to black or green tea, which contains almost double the amount. Tannin can affect your body from absorbing and storing essential iron and proteins, which could be detrimental to individuals with marginal iron status, for instance, premenstrual and pre-menopausal women, pregnant women and growing children.
Low tannin also means no bitter aftertaste, so unless you have a very sweet tooth, a sweetener is not required.
Rooibos or redbush also contains no calories, and being a naturally sweeter taste than other teas, can be easily drunk without adding any sweeteners. An ideal beverage for anyone who is on a weight loss programme.
Rich in antioxidants.
Scientific research has proven that rooibos is rich in antioxidants which include the flavonoids quercetin and luteolin.
Quercetin is flavonol from a flavonoid group of polyphenols; it is known to have anti-spasmodic properties that may offer relief for stomach cramps and colic, and also may work by inhibiting the release of histamines by reducing or preventing the reaction which can take place when we are exposed to an allergen such as pollen.
Rooibos also contains the two rare flavonoids aspalathin which is not found in any other plants, and nothofagin is infrequently found in nature. These antioxidants help to protect our cells from the damage of free radicals.
Contains Essential Minerals.
Rooibos or redbush contains nine trace minerals which can make it a gentle rehydrating drink. The table below shows the nutrient content in the average 200ml cup of redbush tea.
|Iron (Fe)||0.07 mg|
|Potassium (K)||7.12 mg|
|Zinc (Zn)||0.04 mg|
|Manganese (Mn)||0.04 mg|
|Copper (Cu)||0.07 mg|
|Calcium (Ca)||1.08 mg|
|Sodium (Na)||6.16 mg|
|Magnesium (Mg)||1.57 mg|
This makes drinking a cup of redbush, whether hot or cold, a great thirst-quencher and sports drink because it replenishes the body with depleted minerals, so helping to refresh you.
